The 90-Day JAMB Study Plan That Actually Works
The 90-Day JAMB Study Plan That Actually Works
April 2026 · 7 min read · By Nkuzify Edu Concepts
Most JAMB candidates spend months studying without a real plan. They read textbooks from cover to cover, switch between subjects randomly, and pray that whatever they covered shows up in the exam. This approach explains why fewer than 30% of the 1.9 million candidates who sit JAMB each year score above 200. A 90-day structured plan changes everything.
Before You Start: Set Your Target Score
Before day one, know your number. Not "I want to pass" — a specific score. If you want Medicine at UNILAG, you need 280 minimum. If you want Engineering at UI, aim for 260. Your target score determines how aggressive your preparation needs to be. Write it somewhere you see it every day.
Days 1 to 14 — Diagnostic Phase
Spend the first two weeks doing only past questions. Do not open a textbook yet. Take one full JAMB past question paper per day under timed conditions and mark your answers honestly. After 10 papers, you will have a clear picture of which topics you are losing the most marks in. These become your priority areas. Common weak areas: Organic Chemistry, JAMB Mathematics (sequences, integration, statistics), Biology genetics, Physics electricity, and English comprehension speed.
Days 15 to 45 — Topic Mastery Phase
For each subject, work through your weak topics using: Read the core concept → Solve 20 to 30 past questions on that specific topic → Review every wrong answer and understand why it was wrong.
Suggested daily schedule: Morning (2 hours) — Mathematics or Physics. Afternoon (1.5 hours) — Biology or Chemistry. Evening (1 hour) — English Language comprehension and lexis practice. Cover two to three topics per subject. Depth beats breadth for JAMB.
Days 46 to 70 — Intensive Past Question Phase
Solve a minimum of 150 questions per day across all subjects using a CBT simulation platform. Track your scores daily. Keep a dedicated notebook for wrong answers — write the question, the correct answer, and the reason you got it wrong. Review this notebook every Sunday. Target: above 65% per subject on timed practice sessions.
Days 71 to 85 — Mock Exam Phase
Take three full mock exams per week under real exam conditions: same time of day as your actual exam, full 2-hour duration, no phone, no breaks, no looking up answers mid-exam. After each mock, analyse results by subject. Most candidates see their scores climb 20 to 40 points during this phase simply from becoming comfortable with the format and timing.
Days 86 to 90 — Final Review
Stop covering new material. Review your wrong-answer notebook, do light practice (50 questions per day maximum), and prioritise sleep. Candidates who sleep well the night before JAMB consistently perform better than those who stay up cramming. Your brain consolidates memory during sleep — cramming the night before disrupts this process.
