‘Tẹ́kùn’s Adventure’: A 50-Level Typing Game That Even Adults Find Hard

Most typing games ask you to copy a sentence. ‘Tẹ́kùn’s Adventure’ asks you to bring a lost cub home. It has 50 levels, five stages, hearts to lose, gifts to earn, and words that grow from two letters to more than ten. I have not come across another typing game built quite like it, and I expect it to be hard even for a grown adult.

The Story: A Cub Who Wants To See His Family

Tẹ́kùn is a spotted cub, far from home. Every word you type makes him jump the next obstacle on the road. Type it clean and he clears it. Fumble it and you pay for it with a heart. If you want to know where his name comes from, read the story behind the name.

50 Levels, 5 Stages, 10 Levels In Each

The road home is divided into five stages, and each stage has its own mood, its own colour and its own sound.

  1. Courage: the road home begins.
  2. Patience: the river rewards the patient.
  3. Wisdom: the forest knows the way.
  4. Strength: the hills are steep, but your keys are stronger.
  5. Home: the last road, where you must not slow down.

The Words Grow As You Do

Level 1 starts gently with two-letter words like go, up and ox. The length climbs steadily and blends from level to level, so a level is never a sudden jump. By the middle of the game you are typing words like jaguar, savanna and chameleon. By level 45 the words are ten letters long, and the last five levels use nothing shorter than ten letters, words like photosynthesis, extraordinary and mountaineering.

The words are not random. They come from the jungle, from travel and journeys, from the big cats and the animal kingdom, and from biology: phylum, vertebra, cortex, Lamarckism, Darwinism. Many words show a short fact underneath. Type cheetah and you learn that it is the fastest land animal, reaching about 100 kilometres an hour in short bursts. So a child practises typing and spelling, and learns some science as well.

The Obstacles Change, And So Do The Gifts

The cub does not jump the same thing twice in a row. In the first stage it is logs, rocks and fruit. By the river it is honey and fish. In the forest of wisdom it is scrolls and candles, on the hills it is crates and bows, and near home it is drums and a feast. Every cleared level earns you:

  • Stars: up to three, depending on how well you typed.
  • Spirit Coins: more for more stars, with a bonus the first time you clear a level.
  • A keepsake: one for each of the 50 levels, such as a Banana Bunch, a River Pebble or a Lion Whisker.
  • An ancestral gift at the end of each stage: the Jungle Scarf, the River Charm, the Wisdom Mark, the Ember Aura and finally the Golden Coat. The cub wears them.

Play seriously in one sitting and it pays double. Win three levels in a row without leaving, and a Marathon bonus doubles your Spirit Coins.

A Map Of Cheetah Faces

The level map is made of 50 cheetah faces. Every face starts grey and locked. When you win a level, its face fills with colour. Each stage has its own colour family, and the last ten faces are shades of gold. Level 50 is the true gold of a cheetah, the colour of arriving home.

A Moment At The End Of Every Stage

Finish a stage and the game stops to mark it, with a bigger card and a short storytelling message that begins "Out of courage, you took the first steps." Each stage also has its own wilderness soundtrack: birds and wind first, then river and frogs, crickets and owls at night, rain and distant thunder, and finally a soft drum that sounds like home. At level 50, the cub meets his family.

Why It Is Good For Children

  • Typing skill grows gradually. Two-letter words first, long words later.
  • It builds vocabulary. Animals, plants, science and geography words are all part of the road.
  • It teaches patience. A heart is lost by rushing, and a clean level is worth more than a fast one.
  • Children want to come back. There are 50 faces to colour and 50 keepsakes to find.

Teens And Adults: Can You Reach Level 50?

I will be honest. This game is meant to be hard. The early levels are easy, but by the late stages the words are long, the obstacles come quickly, and one wrong key costs you. Try to finish a stage without losing a heart. Then tell me in the comments how far you got.

Please Share It With The Younger Ones

Show it to your younger siblings, your children, your cousins and your pupils. They can play on a phone, a tablet, a laptop or a PC, anywhere in the world, free and without signing up. Sit with a child for the first few levels and watch them grow.
