Dr Lawal Olohungbebe: Kwara State's Commissioner For Education
Recognised by Nkuzify as Leading Teachers and Educators of the Year.
Behind every classroom there is a system, and somebody has to run it. On this World Teachers' Day, Nkuzify looks at Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, one of the leaders who run Nigeria's education systems.
Who He Is
Dr Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe came to the cabinet from the university and from community work. He worked at Kwara State University, where he coordinated the Centre for Community Development, and he served as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq swore him in as Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development in March 2025, and Kwara State University noted that he was the first serving staff member of the university to hold that post in the state.
On 10 December 2025 he became chairman of the Committee of State Commissioners of Education in Nigeria. So a commissioner from Kwara now leads the group where education commissioners from the different states compare notes and plan together.
Why Nkuzify celebrates him. He spent years helping a university and its host communities work as one, and now he helps states work together on classrooms. Education grows best when schools, parents and communities pull in the same direction, and he has practised that for a long time.
