Failed JAMB? Read This Before You Write It Again

Your JAMB score is out, and it is not enough for the course you wanted. Your friends are already saying "we go again next year." But before you pay for another form, there is a door many students never look at, and it just got busier. The board behind it has released its 2026 results, universities are opening forms for the next session, and more than 80 schools are part of it. It is called JUPEB. Read this before you decide anything.

What Just Happened In JUPEB

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board has released the 2026 examination results, and Campus News has the report. It carries two warnings worth remembering. Not every institution had received its results yet, and a JUPEB result does not guarantee admission by itself. Candidates are told to watch their university's portal for Direct Entry screening.

Meanwhile, schools are opening forms for 2026/2027. The University of Lagos closed its form on 21 August, with its entrance exam on 5 September, as SmartJamb reported. Other universities, such as FUTO, NDU, UNIDEL and Christopher University, have their own form pages, listed by MySchoolGist. Every school sets its own dates and fees, so check each one directly.

JUPEB In Simple Words

JUPEB is a one-session programme at an approved university. At the end you write the JUPEB exam, and the result lets you apply for Direct Entry into 200 Level, skipping 100 Level. The board's own website describes it as a common exam for candidates with at least one year of approved foundation or diploma courses. And its official FAQ says the result is usable for three admission years.

How Many Schools Run It?

SmartJamb says a JUPEB certificate can be used for Direct Entry into over 80 universities. One published copy of JUPEB's list of approved universities, which you can read here, shows about 84, spread like this:

Some websites claim 104 institutions, so the exact number depends on who you ask. Treat the list above as a guide, and confirm on the board's official site that the school you want runs JUPEB and accepts it for your course.

Failed JAMB: JUPEB Or Rewrite?

Being honest: JUPEB is not a shortcut, and it is not for everybody. It costs a full year of classes and school fees. If you missed your cut-off by a small margin, a focused rewrite may be enough. If you missed by a lot, or you want a competitive course and want a proper second route, JUPEB deserves a serious look. Also, the UNILAG requirement, as SmartJamb explains, is five O'Level credits including English and Mathematics, all in one sitting. Check your result before you fall in love with the idea.

Before You Pay Anybody

The board's FAQ says only NUC-approved universities affiliated to JUPEB can run the programme, and that tutorial centres cannot register candidates. The board has also published a warning about fake websites that present themselves as JUPEB, and you can read that notice here. A website that looks official is not proof. Pay only through the university itself.

What To Do This Week

1. Open jupeb.edu.ng and check the official information.
2. Pick two or three universities that run JUPEB and check that they accept it for your course.
3. Check your O'Level result against the requirement.
4. Get the form from the university's own admissions page, and note its closing date.
