My Brother Benjamin Nwoye Taught Me What To Read
Recognised by Nkuzify as Distinguished Teacher of the Year.
Some people are teachers because someone pays them to be. My brother Benjamin Nwoye is a teacher because he cannot help it. He is one of the most intelligent people I know to this day, in politics and in plenty of other things.
What He Taught Me To Do
What Benjamin gave me was not a list of facts. He taught me how to write more. He taught me how to read widely, and just as important, what to read. And he taught me to keep my focus on Africa.
He Changed My Mind
He also made me think hard about what westernisation has done, and he changed my mind about a lot of things. A good teacher does not only fill you up. He makes you question what you already believe, and Benjamin did that for me.
Whenever I remember my brother, I remember another teacher I am writing about too: Koncheski Boraski.
Thank You, Benjamin Nwoye
Happy Teachers' Day, Benjamin Nwoye. If someone in your own family taught you more than any classroom did, you can make them a free card. You can also read about my mother, who taught me to read, and my father.
