ASUU Strikes In 2026: What They Mean For Your Choice Of University

Imagine getting admission, paying your fees, packing your bags, and then finding your lecturers on strike. For candidates who chose Lagos and Ondo state universities this session, that is not a hypothetical. Here is what has happened, and how to think about it before you decide.

What Happened In Lagos

ASUU's joint campus group declared an indefinite strike at LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH after an ultimatum to the state government expired. The demand is that the December 2025 agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government be adopted and implemented in the Lagos universities. As the strike entered its third week, the state government promised to resolve it.

What Happened In Ondo

The Ondo state universities were shut for weeks, but the strike was suspended on 29 September after the state government made financial interventions. Staff were directed to resume duties.

And Nationally?

Earlier this month, ASUU warned that public universities could face a nationwide strike unless salary and agreement issues are addressed. It is a warning, not a strike, so please do not spread it as one.
