Is JAMB Change Of Course And Institution Still Open In 2026?
Picture this. Your JAMB result is out, and it is not the score you prayed for. One friend says, "Forget it, change of course has closed." Another says it is still open. Somebody's cousin swears it ended in July. So who is telling the truth?
I went looking for the answer, and here it is: I found no official JAMB notice saying change of course and institution has ended. There is no announced closing date either. But do not relax yet. What does have dates is the admission exercise itself, and that clock is the one that really decides your chances. Keep reading, because one of the dates below is 30 September.
When Did It Start?
JAMB announced the start of the 2026 change process in a notice from its spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin. Candidates were told to visit approved CBT centres. Africa Health Report and Myschool News both date this to 15 May 2026.
Has JAMB Announced When It Ends?
Not that I could find, and none of the reports above mention a closing date either. So, if you see a post claiming "change of course has closed" with no JAMB source, treat it with caution.
The Deadlines That Matter
JAMB has set the dates by which schools must finish admitting candidates. These were agreed at the 2026 Policy Meeting and repeated on 28 September 2026 when JAMB restored CAPS after a temporary disruption.
| Type of institution | Admission deadline |
|---|---|
| Public universities | 31 October 2026 |
| Private universities | 30 November 2026 |
| Polytechnics, colleges of education and others | 31 December 2026 |
The deadlines above come from BusinessDay’s report on the admission schedule and Naija News’ report on CAPS being restored.
What This Means For You
A change is only useful if the school you are moving to is still admitting and your score meets its cut-off. CAPS filters candidates against cut-off marks automatically. If a school or department has already filled its quota, changing to it will not help.
One Deadline Is Tomorrow
JAMB has told candidates with pending offers from 2021 to date to accept or reject them by Wednesday, 30 September 2026. After that, every unresolved offer becomes "Not Admitted" permanently. If you have a fresh 2026 offer as well, JAMB says you can reject the old one without affecting the new one. Legit.ng has the full announcement.
What To Do Now
- Log in to JAMB eFacility and check your CAPS status.
- Confirm the new school and course are still admitting before you pay for a change.
- Use only an accredited CBT centre, and keep your receipt.
- Check that the change shows on your CAPS profile.
- Do not trust any offer that is not on CAPS. JAMB says admission outside CAPS is not recognised.
A Note On This Article
This was written from published reports on 29 September 2026. JAMB can change its position at any time, so confirm on the JAMB portal before you act.
Your Turn
Are you planning to change your course or your school? Tell me in the comments what you are moving from and what you are moving to. If your school is not listed anywhere, or your change is not showing on CAPS, or there is something I did not cover here, comment it and I will write about it.
I write every article on this blog myself, so your comments decide what I write next. If this helped you, tap the thumbs-up so it reaches other candidates.
