Documents Needed For Admission In Nigeria: The 2026 Checklist
The offer will come, and when it does, the schools will not wait for you to look for your birth certificate. Candidates who get their documents ready early clear faster and stress less. Here is the checklist of documents needed for admission in Nigeria this year, built from what schools have actually published.
The Core Documents
The exact list varies by school, as Study Focus’s checklist stresses, but these appear again and again.
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| JAMB Result Slip | The original slip with your photo, as AKSU requires |
| JAMB Admission Letter | Printed from CAPS after you accept. Print copies |
| O'Level Result (WAEC Or NECO) | Originals and photocopies. It must also be uploaded on CAPS |
| Birth Certificate Or Age Declaration | Widely requested |
| Local Government Certificate Of Origin | Also called a local government identification letter or state of origin certificate |
| Passport Photographs | Some schools specify sizes, so check first |
| Acceptance Fee Receipt | Needed at the screening venue |
| Post-UTME Or Screening Slip | If your school ran one |
Extras Some Schools Ask For
- A letter from your sponsor or guardian, and your NIN for online clearance, as Unidel’s notice lists
- Medical clearance documents, where required
- A reference letter, if your school asks for one
If You Are A Direct Entry Candidate
You will also need your ND, NCE, IJMB or JUPEB certificate and transcripts from your previous institution, as Within Nigeria’s report explains. It also warns that documents that cannot be verified can lead to disqualification.
How To Get Organised
- Start the local government letter early, because it means a trip to your local government office.
- Photocopy everything. One federal university asks for the original plus four copies, as its notice shows.
- Scan every document to your phone and email.
- Make sure your O'Level result is on CAPS. If you used "awaiting result", see what NECO's release means for you.
- Never hand original documents to a stranger who promises to "process" your admission.
What Comes After The Documents
Documents are for clearance. Here is the full list of what to do after admission. And to be sure your offer is real before you start, check it on CAPS, and once it is there, accept it and print your letter.
