JAMB Restores CAPS After a 96-Hour Shutdown
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is back and fully operational after a short shutdown. If you are waiting for an admission, or you work in an admissions office, here is what happened and what to do next.
What happened
JAMB announced the temporary shutdown of CAPS on September 24, 2026 and blamed technical challenges with its hosting arrangements. One report says the platform was unavailable for 96 hours. JAMB confirmed on September 28, 2026 that CAPS was working again.
What is CAPS, and why does it matter?
CAPS is the platform institutions use to submit admission recommendations. Candidates use it to see their admission status and to accept or reject offers. JAMB treats it as the only recognised route to admission, and earlier this year it said it would no longer consider complaints about admissions secured outside CAPS.
What JAMB asked institutions to do
With CAPS restored, JAMB urged institutions to speed up their admission work so they recover the lost time and meet the agreed deadlines. It also said it would promptly consider and approve the admission recommendations they submit through CAPS.
What JAMB asked candidates to do
Candidates who receive an admission offer should respond promptly. Do not leave an offer sitting on your profile while the deadlines run.
Did the deadlines change?
No. JAMB kept the 2026/2027 deadlines as they were: public universities by October 31, private universities by November 30, and other institutions by December 31, 2026. We explain them in full here: The 2026 admission deadlines every candidate should know.
What is not yet confirmed
We have not found any announcement that the days lost during the shutdown will lead to longer deadlines. JAMB has also not published more detail about the fault than the hosting problem. If that changes, this post will be updated.
What should you do now?
- Log in to your JAMB profile, open CAPS and check your admission status.
- Accept or reject any offer waiting for you.
- If you have an old offer from 2021 to 2025, read the new November 30 deadline.
- Do not pay anyone for an admission outside CAPS. JAMB has said such admissions are not recognised.
